Resistance Not Working / Not Adjusting

Bowflex Fitness Equipment

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Resistance not adjusting on a Bowflex usually means the resistance motor, cable, or sensor has an issue. On the VeloCore bike, recalibrate the resistance. On Max Trainer, check the cable connections.

Affected Models

  • Bowflex VeloCore Bike
  • Bowflex C6 Bike
  • Bowflex Max Trainer M9
  • Bowflex Max Trainer M6

Common Causes

  • Resistance motor cable disconnected
  • Resistance needs recalibration after power loss
  • Resistance motor failure
  • Bluetooth connection lost (on connected models)
  • Cable from console to resistance motor frayed

How to Fix It

  1. Recalibrate resistance through the console.

Many Bowflex machines have a calibration option in Settings. Follow the on-screen calibration procedure.

  2. Unplug for 60 seconds, then plug back in.

A full power reset often restores resistance control.

  3. Check the resistance motor cable.

The cable runs from the console to the resistance motor. Make sure it is connected at both ends.

  4. Contact Bowflex support if resistance still does not adjust.

The resistance motor may need replacement. Bowflex offers in-home service for warranty repairs.
