Wi-Fi Not Connecting

Bowflex Treadmill / Elliptical

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Bowflex console not connecting to Wi-Fi is usually caused by a weak signal at the machine's location, or the 5GHz band being selected when the console only supports 2.4GHz on older models. Move the router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender, and try selecting the 2.4GHz network during setup.

Affected Models

  • Bowflex BXT116
  • Bowflex BXT216
  • Bowflex T10
  • Bowflex T22
  • Bowflex Max Trainer M8
  • Bowflex Max Trainer M9

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi signal too weak at the machine location — metal frames and floors attenuate signal
  • 5GHz network selected — some Bowflex models support only 2.4GHz
  • Router using WPA3 security — some consoles only support WPA2
  • JRNY account not signed in after Wi-Fi connects — appears as no connectivity
  • Console software not updated — old firmware may have Wi-Fi driver bugs

How to Fix It

  1. Try the 2.4GHz network.

During Wi-Fi setup on the Bowflex console, select the 2.4GHz version of your network. On dual-band routers where both bands share a name, temporarily separate them in your router settings to identify the 2.4GHz band. Older Bowflex consoles do not support 5GHz.

  2. Move the router closer temporarily.

Test the Wi-Fi connection with the router within 3–4 meters of the machine. If connection succeeds at close range, the signal is too weak at the machine's normal location. Install a Wi-Fi extender halfway between the router and the machine.

  3. Check router security settings.

Log into your router admin panel and check the security type for the 2.4GHz band. Some Bowflex consoles only support WPA2-Personal (AES) and will not connect to WPA3 or WEP networks. Change the security to WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode or WPA2 only.

  4. Update the console firmware.

If the console connects to Wi-Fi but loses connection or never loads JRNY content, a firmware update may resolve the issue. Check the Bowflex website for available firmware updates for your model and follow the USB or app update procedure.

  5. Sign in to JRNY after connecting.

Connecting to Wi-Fi and connecting to JRNY are two separate steps. After the console shows Wi-Fi connected (checkmark or signal icon), open the JRNY app on the console and sign in with your account credentials. Without a JRNY sign-in, Wi-Fi connectivity alone does not unlock JRNY features.

When to Call a Professional

If the console connects to Wi-Fi but JRNY still does not work, the issue is with JRNY servers or your account. Contact Bowflex/Nautilus support for account issues.
