Error E1

NordicTrack Treadmill

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error E1 means the treadmill's speed sensor is not detecting the belt movement. The sensor may be misaligned, the magnet may have shifted, or the sensor has failed. Check the speed sensor near the front roller.

Affected Models

  • NordicTrack Commercial 1750
  • NordicTrack Commercial 2450
  • NordicTrack T Series
  • Most NordicTrack treadmills

Common Causes

  • Speed sensor misaligned with the magnet
  • Magnet on the roller shifted position
  • Speed sensor cable disconnected
  • Speed sensor failed
  • Motor controller not receiving sensor signal

How to Fix It

  1. Check the speed sensor gap.

The sensor sits near the front roller with a small magnet on the roller. The gap should be 1-3mm. Adjust if too far.

  2. Check that the magnet is still on the roller.

The magnet can shift or fall off with vibration. It should be glued to the roller pulley.

  3. Check the sensor cable connection.

Follow the cable from the sensor to the motor controller board. Make sure it is plugged in firmly.

  4. Replace the speed sensor if it has failed.

Speed sensors cost $10-$25 and are easy to replace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the treadmill with E1?

No. Without a speed signal, the treadmill cannot control the belt speed safely.

Where is the speed sensor?

Usually near the front roller, underneath the motor cover. You need to remove the motor cover to access it.
