Incline Motor Error / Incline Not Working

NordicTrack Treadmill

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

An incline motor error means the treadmill cannot raise or lower the incline. The motor may be stuck, a fuse may be blown, or the motor controller has a fault. Recalibrate the incline first — if that fails, the motor or controller may need replacement.

Affected Models

  • NordicTrack Commercial 1750
  • NordicTrack Commercial 2450
  • NordicTrack T Series
  • NordicTrack X22i
  • Most NordicTrack treadmills with incline

Common Causes

  • Incline motor needs recalibration after power loss
  • Incline motor fuse blown
  • Debris blocking the incline mechanism
  • Motor controller board failure
  • Incline motor burned out from overuse

How to Fix It

  1. Recalibrate the incline.

Unplug the treadmill for 60 seconds. Plug back in. The incline should auto-calibrate — it moves to maximum then minimum. Do not stand on the treadmill during calibration.

  2. Check the incline motor fuse.

Open the motor cover at the front. Look for a small inline fuse on the incline motor wires. Replace if blown.

  3. Lubricate the incline mechanism.

The lift mechanism can seize from lack of lubrication. Apply silicone spray to the incline pivot points.

  4. If none of the above works: contact NordicTrack support.

The incline motor or controller board may need replacement. Covered under warranty if within the warranty period.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an incline motor replacement cost?

The motor costs $100-$200. Professional installation adds $100-$200. Check warranty first — motors are often covered for 2-5 years.

Can I use the treadmill without incline?

Usually yes. The treadmill's main walking/running function works independently of the incline. You just cannot adjust the slope.
