Leaderboard Not Loading / Shows Zero Riders

Peloton Exercise Bike

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

The Peloton leaderboard not showing riders is most often caused by a weak Wi-Fi connection or a temporary Peloton server issue. Force-close the Peloton app on the touchscreen and reopen it. For on-demand classes with no leaderboard, confirm you are not in Just Ride mode — the leaderboard is only available in class mode.

Affected Models

  • Peloton Bike
  • Peloton Bike+
  • Peloton Tread
  • Peloton Row

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi connection too weak to maintain real-time leaderboard data
  • Peloton server outage or temporary leaderboard service disruption
  • Just Ride or Scenic Ride mode selected — leaderboard is not available in these modes
  • Peloton app needs update — older versions have leaderboard loading bugs
  • Leaderboard toggled off in class settings by the user

How to Fix It

  1. Check Wi-Fi signal strength.

Weak Wi-Fi is the leading cause of leaderboard loading failures. On the Peloton touchscreen, go to Settings > Wi-Fi to see your current connection status. The Peloton requires a minimum 20 Mbps connection for smooth class streaming and leaderboard data. Move the router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender.

  2. Verify you are in a class, not Just Ride mode.

The leaderboard is only available during live classes and on-demand classes — not in Just Ride, Scenic Ride, or workout mode. From the home screen, select a class from the class library, tap Join, and the leaderboard will appear on the right side of the screen once loaded.

  3. Toggle the leaderboard on.

During a class, the leaderboard can be hidden by the user. Tap anywhere on the screen to bring up the class controls, then look for the Leaderboard toggle (person icon or "#" icon) and tap it to make the leaderboard visible.

  4. Force-restart the Peloton touchscreen.

Hold the power button on the back of the touchscreen for 5 seconds until the power menu appears, then tap Restart. Alternatively, hold the power button and volume-down button simultaneously for a forced restart. After restarting, rejoin the class and check if the leaderboard loads.

  5. Update the Peloton app.

Peloton regularly pushes software updates that fix leaderboard and streaming issues. On the touchscreen, go to Settings > Device Settings > About > Software Update. Install any available update and test the leaderboard in a class.

When to Call a Professional

The leaderboard is a cloud service — no hardware service is needed. If it consistently fails across multiple class types and Wi-Fi is strong, contact Peloton support to investigate your account.
