No Audio

Peloton Exercise Bike / Treadmill

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

No audio on a Peloton is almost always caused by headphones connected (muting the speakers), the volume turned all the way down, or Bluetooth audio connected to another device. Check the volume slider on screen and disconnect any paired Bluetooth audio devices.

Affected Models

  • Peloton Bike
  • Peloton Bike+
  • Peloton Tread
  • Peloton Row

Common Causes

  • Volume turned to zero on the touchscreen slider
  • Wired headphones plugged in — mutes the built-in speakers
  • Bluetooth headphones paired and still connected from a previous session
  • Audio output set to an external device in settings
  • Software bug after an update causing audio service to crash
  • Hardware speaker failure (rare)

How to Fix It

  1. Check the on-screen volume level.

Swipe down from the top of the Peloton screen to open the quick settings panel. Check the volume slider — even if the slider looks at mid-level, confirm it is above zero. Also check the mute toggle if your model has one.

  2. Unplug any wired headphones and check the headphone jack.

A partially inserted plug in the headphone jack will mute the speakers but produce no sound from the headphones either. Remove any wired headphone, blow gently into the jack, and test with the speakers.

  3. Disconnect all paired Bluetooth audio devices.

Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Disconnect or forget any paired headphones or speakers. Peloton will route audio to the built-in speakers when no Bluetooth audio device is connected. The most common cause of 'no sound' after a workout is Bluetooth headphones from the previous session remaining connected.

  4. Restart the Peloton touchscreen.

Hold the power button on the back of the screen for 5-10 seconds until it shuts down. Wait 30 seconds, then power back on. A software audio service crash that mutes sound is cleared by a restart.

  5. Check for a pending software update.

Go to Settings > Device Settings > About Tablet. If an update is pending, install it. Peloton pushes audio fixes in regular updates — a known audio bug in a previous version is often fixed in the latest release.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Peloton has sound during setup but loses it during class — what is happening?

Audio that cuts out mid-class is usually a Bluetooth issue — headphones reconnecting mid-session and taking over audio output, or an intermittent software audio routing bug. Turn off Bluetooth completely if you use the built-in speakers, or ensure your headphones stay reliably connected if you prefer them.

Can I connect my Peloton to a Bluetooth speaker?

Yes. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and pair a Bluetooth speaker. Once paired, the Peloton will route audio to the speaker. Note that Bluetooth audio typically has a slight delay — this may cause the instructor audio to feel out of sync with the music for some users.
