Squeaking / Clicking Noise
Peloton Exercise Bike
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Squeaking or clicking on a Peloton is usually caused by loose pedals, dry bearings, or loose hardware. Tighten the pedals first — this fixes most cases.
Affected Models
- Peloton Bike
- Peloton Bike+
Common Causes
- Pedals not tight enough (most common)
- Seat post clamp loose
- Handlebar clamp loose
- Bearings need lubrication
- Cleats loose on cycling shoes
How to Fix It
-
Tighten both pedals.
Right pedal: tighten clockwise. Left pedal: tighten counterclockwise (reverse thread). Use the wrench that came with the bike.
-
Tighten the seat post and handlebar clamps.
Use the adjustment knobs to ensure the seat and handlebars are firmly locked.
-
Check your cycling shoe cleats.
Loose cleats click with each pedal stroke. Tighten the bolts on the bottom of your shoes.
-
If squeaking persists: the bearings may need lubrication.
Contact Peloton support — bearing lubrication may be covered under warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is clicking normal on a new Peloton?
Slight clicking from clipping in/out of pedals is normal. Rhythmic clicking while pedaling is not normal and should be investigated.
Why is the left pedal reverse-threaded?
To prevent it from unscrewing during riding. The pedaling motion would loosen a normally-threaded left pedal.
