Not Working on PS5
Fanatec Sim Racing Hardware
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Not all Fanatec products work on PS5. Only the DD Pro and GT DD Extreme are officially PS5-compatible wheelbases. The CSL DD is PC/Xbox only. For PS5, the base must be in PS mode and the game must support the wheel.
Affected Models
- DD Pro
- GT DD Extreme
- ClubSport Steering Wheel GT Flex (PS5 compatible rim required)
Common Causes
- Wrong wheelbase model — CSL DD does not support PS5
- Base in PC mode instead of PS4/PS5 mode
- Using a non-PS-licensed steering wheel rim on a PS5-compatible base
- Game does not support the Fanatec wheel on PS5
- USB cable plugged into the wrong PS5 USB port
How to Fix It
-
Confirm your wheelbase model is PS5 compatible.
Only the DD Pro and GT DD Extreme officially support PS5. The CSL DD (standard version) does NOT support PlayStation — it is PC and Xbox only.
-
Switch the base to PS4 mode.
PS5 runs Fanatec wheels in PS4 compatibility mode. On the base display, navigate to the tuning menu and set the platform to PS4. The PS5 recognises it as a PS4 peripheral.
-
Use a PS-licensed steering wheel rim.
Connecting a non-PS-licensed rim (e.g., a PC-only rim) to a PS-compatible base disables PS5 functionality. Use a rim labelled "PlayStation compatible."
-
Plug into the correct PS5 USB port.
Use the front USB-A port on the PS5 for the Fanatec wheelbase. Some rear ports have compatibility issues.
-
Check the game supports Fanatec on PS5.
Not all racing games support Fanatec on PS5. Confirmed compatible titles: Gran Turismo 7, F1 series, WRC, EA Sports WRC, Assetto Corsa Competizione. Check Fanatec's compatibility list at fanatec.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the CSL DD on PS5 at all?
No — the standard CSL DD only supports PC and Xbox Series X|S. Fanatec made a specific PS-licensed version called the DD Pro for PlayStation compatibility. There is no workaround for using the CSL DD on PS5.
Why does PS5 use PS4 mode for Fanatec wheels?
Sony's PS5 licensing process for steering wheels is handled under the PS4 device category. The PS5 accepts PS4-licensed wheels via backwards compatibility. This is why you set the base to PS4 mode — it's by design, not a workaround.
