Rev Lights Not Working

Fanatec Sim Racing Hardware

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Fanatec rev lights (the LED strip on the steering wheel) require the game to send RPM data. If the lights don't work, the game is either not sending that data or a setting is disabled.

Affected Models

  • ClubSport Steering Wheel F1 Esports
  • ClubSport Steering Wheel GT Flex
  • Podium Steering Wheel R300
  • Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3
  • Most Fanatec rims with LED rev lights

Common Causes

  • Game not configured to output telemetry/LED data to the wheel
  • Fanatec Control Panel LED brightness set to zero
  • Firmware mismatch between rim and wheelbase
  • Game uses a different LED protocol not supported by the rim
  • SHO (rev lights) setting on wheel turned off

How to Fix It

  1. Check the SHO setting on the wheel's tuning menu.

Press the MENU button on the wheel and navigate to SHO (show/strobe). Set SHO to 1–5 to enable the rev lights. SHO 0 turns them off.

  2. Check in-game settings for steering wheel LED output.

In iRacing: Options → Controls → Fanatec LED output must be enabled. In Assetto Corsa Competizione: the game sends LED data automatically when the wheel is detected. In F1 games: steering wheel LEDs should work automatically with a recognised Fanatec wheel.

  3. Check LED brightness in the Fanatec Control Panel.

Open the Fanatec app → Wheel Settings → LED Brightness. If set to 0 (off), the lights won't show regardless of game settings.

  4. Update firmware for both the rim and wheelbase.

LED functionality requires matching firmware. Update all components together via the Fanatec app.

  5. Check if your specific game supports Fanatec LEDs.

Not all games send RPM data to third-party wheel LEDs. Fanatec maintains a game compatibility list — check fanatec.com for your title.
