Tuning Menu Not Showing

Fanatec Sim Racing Hardware

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

The Fanatec tuning menu (showing FFB, NDP, BRF, and other settings) is accessed by pressing the MENU button on the steering wheel or the display button on the wheelbase. If it's not showing, the wheel and base may not be communicating.

Affected Models

  • CSL DD
  • DD Pro
  • GT DD Extreme
  • Podium DD1
  • Podium DD2
  • CSL Elite Wheelbase v2
  • All rims with MENU button

Common Causes

  • Steering wheel rim not fully attached to QR
  • Rim firmware out of date — tuning menu requires compatible firmware
  • QR connection making poor electrical contact
  • Base in a mode that doesn't display tuning (e.g. during firmware update mode)
  • Wrong button being pressed — MENU vs other buttons

How to Fix It

  1. Press and hold the MENU button on the steering wheel for 2 seconds.

A short press changes the display mode. A longer press enters the full tuning menu. The exact button varies by rim — check your rim's manual.

  2. Check the QR is fully locked.

A partially connected quick release causes intermittent communication. Detach and reattach the rim, ensuring it clicks securely.

  3. Update the rim firmware.

The tuning menu requires matching firmware between rim and base. Connect via USB to the Fanatec app and update all devices.

  4. Confirm the base display is working.

The tuning menu is shown on the LED display on the wheelbase (not just the wheel). If the base display is blank, the base may need a restart.

  5. Power cycle — turn off, wait 10 seconds, turn on.

A communication glitch between rim and base can prevent the tuning menu from initialising. A power cycle usually resolves this.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the tuning menu settings mean?

The main settings: FF = overall FFB strength, NDP = natural damper (smooths FFB), NFR = natural friction, NIN = natural inertia, INT = interpolation, FEI = force effect intensity, BRF = brake force factor (load cell pedals), SHO = rev light brightness. Fanatec's website has detailed explanations of each.
