2137-0006

Nintendo Nintendo Switch

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 2137-0006 means your Nintendo Switch could not connect to the Nintendo eShop or had a problem with your Nintendo Account. This stops you from browsing the shop, downloading games, or accessing online features. It is usually a temporary server problem or an account sign-in issue.

Affected Models

  • Nintendo Switch
  • Nintendo Switch Lite
  • Nintendo Switch OLED

Common Causes

  • Nintendo's eShop servers are temporarily down for maintenance or experiencing high traffic
  • Your internet connection is too slow or unstable for the eShop to load
  • Your Nintendo Account session has expired and needs to be re-signed in
  • The Nintendo Account linked to the console has a restriction or verification pending
  • The system date and time are set incorrectly, which can cause authentication failures

How to Fix It

  1. Check Nintendo's server status. On your phone or computer, visit nintendo.com/consumer/network and look for any listed maintenance or outages.

Nintendo performs regular maintenance on the eShop, especially overnight and at weekends. This is the most common cause of 2137-0006.

  2. Check your internet connection on the Switch. Go to System Settings > Internet > Test Connection. Make sure the connection test passes before trying the eShop again.

The eShop requires a stable connection. Even a passing test with a very slow speed can cause eShop timeouts.

  3. Sign out of your Nintendo Account and sign back in. On the Switch, go to System Settings > Users > select your user > Sign Out. Then open the eShop and sign back in.

An expired account session can cause eShop errors. Signing out and in refreshes the session token.

  4. Check the system date and time. Go to System Settings > System > Date and Time. Make sure the correct date, time, and time zone are set. Enable 'Synchronize Clock via Internet' if available.

An incorrect system date can cause Nintendo's servers to reject your console's authentication request.

  5. Restart the Nintendo Switch. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds and select Restart. After restarting, try opening the eShop again.

A restart clears temporary memory issues. Wait a few minutes after restarting before opening the eShop.

When to Call a Professional

Error 2137-0006 does not require hardware repair. If the error persists after checking your connection and account, contact Nintendo Support online or by phone. Nintendo Support can check if there is an issue with your account on their end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nintendo maintenance announced in advance?

Yes. Nintendo usually announces planned maintenance on their website and social media channels at least a few hours in advance. Check Nintendo's official Twitter or their network status page to see if maintenance is scheduled. Unplanned outages due to high traffic (like during major game launches) are not always announced.

Can I still play my games when the eShop is down?

Yes. You can play any games already downloaded to your Switch during eShop downtime. Only eShop browsing, purchases, and some online features are affected. You cannot download new games or check for updates until the eShop comes back online.

Does my Nintendo Account work across Switch, Wii U, and 3DS?

The Nintendo Account system works across Nintendo Switch and newer platforms. Older consoles like the 3DS and Wii U use a separate Nintendo Network ID (NNID). You can link a NNID to your Nintendo Account, but they are technically separate systems.
