CE-112803-3

Sony PlayStation

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

CE-112803-3 means your PlayStation 5 failed to download or install a game or update. This is usually caused by a storage problem, a weak internet connection, or a temporary server issue. The good news is that this error almost never means anything is permanently broken.

Affected Models

  • PlayStation 5
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition

Common Causes

  • Your PS5's internal SSD or expanded M.2 storage is almost full
  • The internet connection dropped or was too slow during the download
  • PlayStation Network servers had a temporary hiccup or outage
  • The downloaded file became corrupted before installation could complete
  • A background system process conflicted with the download

How to Fix It

  1. Check your available storage. Go to Settings > Storage and see how much free space is available. You need at least a few gigabytes free for downloads to install correctly.

PS5 games can be 50 to 100 GB in size. Running out of space during a download triggers this error.

  2. Delete the failed download and try again. Go to Settings > Storage > Console Storage > Games and Apps. Find the incomplete download, delete it, then restart the download from the PlayStation Store or Game Library.

Partially downloaded files can become corrupted. Starting fresh is faster than trying to resume a broken download.

  3. Check PSN server status. Visit status.playstation.com on your phone or computer to see if PlayStation Network is experiencing issues.

If servers are down, all you can do is wait. Sony usually resolves outages within a few hours.

  4. Restart your PS5 and your router. Fully shut down the PS5 (not Rest Mode), then unplug your router for 60 seconds. Power both back on, then retry the download.

This clears temporary network issues and refreshes the connection between your console and Sony's servers.

  5. Try downloading on a wired connection. Connect an Ethernet cable directly from your router to the PS5 instead of using Wi-Fi.

A wired connection is much more stable for large game downloads and eliminates wireless interference.

When to Call a Professional

CE-112803-3 is a software error and does not require a repair technician. If the error repeats constantly on every download and your storage is not full, contact PlayStation Support. They can check your account and console registration for issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much free storage does my PS5 need for downloads?

Sony recommends keeping at least 10% of your storage free at all times. The PS5's internal SSD is 825 GB, but only about 667 GB is usable. For large games, you may need 100 GB or more of free space during installation.

Can I add more storage to a PS5?

Yes. The PS5 has an M.2 expansion slot that accepts compatible NVMe SSDs. You need an M.2 SSD with a heatsink and a PCIe Gen 4 drive. The slot supports drives up to 4 TB. Sony has an official installation guide on their support website.

Why does the same game keep failing to download?

If a specific game keeps failing, the game files on Sony's servers may be temporarily corrupted. Try waiting 24 hours and downloading again. If it persists, contact PlayStation Support — they can sometimes push a fresh copy of the files to your account.
