CE-35082-7

Sony PlayStation

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

CE-35082-7 means your PlayStation cannot read the disc in the drive. The game disc, Blu-ray movie, or DVD is either damaged, dirty, or unsupported. This error only affects physical disc playback — digital games are not affected.

Affected Models

  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 4 Slim
  • PlayStation 4 Pro

Common Causes

  • The game disc has scratches, smudges, or physical damage on the readable surface
  • Dust has built up on the PS4's disc drive laser lens
  • The disc was not fully inserted and seated in the drive
  • You are trying to play a disc from a different region than your console
  • The disc drive laser has worn out after extended use

How to Fix It

  1. Inspect and clean the disc. Hold it by the edges and look for visible scratches or smudges. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe from the center outward — never in circles.

Even small fingerprints near the center of a disc can cause read errors.

  2. Try a different disc. Put in a different game or Blu-ray movie. If the second disc works, the problem is with the original disc, not the console.

If no disc works at all, the problem is likely the PS4's disc drive itself.

  3. Eject the disc and reinsert it firmly. Make sure the disc clicks into place and the drive accepts it smoothly before trying to play.

An improperly seated disc can spin incorrectly and fail to be read.

  4. Restart the PS4 and try again. Sometimes a temporary firmware glitch causes the disc reader to fail. A full restart clears the issue.

Hold the power button for 7 seconds for a full shutdown rather than using the quick power option.

  5. Use a disc drive cleaning kit. These kits use a specially coated disc to gently clean the laser lens. You can find them at electronics stores for a few dollars.

Do not spray liquids directly into the disc drive slot — only use a proper cleaning kit.

When to Call a Professional

If cleaning the disc and drive does not help, the Blu-ray laser may be failing. Disc drive repair or replacement costs roughly $80 to $150 at a repair shop. Sony's official repair service is available at repair.playstation.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a scratched disc be repaired?

Light surface scratches can sometimes be polished out with a disc repair kit. These kits are available at game stores and online for about $10 to $20. Deep scratches that go through the reflective layer cannot be repaired.

Will this error affect my digital games?

No. Digital games installed on the hard drive are completely unaffected by disc drive errors. Only physical discs require the Blu-ray drive. If you have digital copies, you can continue playing those while you fix the disc issue.

Can I play discs from other countries on my PS4?

Most PS4 game discs are region-free and will work on any console. However, Blu-ray movies are region-locked. If you bought a movie disc from a different country, your PS4 may refuse to play it.
