WS-116411-5
PlayStation Gaming Console
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
WS-116411-5 is a PlayStation 4 network error that prevents access to PSN services. Your console cannot reach the PlayStation servers. This is almost always caused by a connection problem, not your account.
Affected Models
- PlayStation 4 Pro
- PlayStation 4 Slim
- PlayStation 4
Common Causes
- Your internet connection is down or too weak to reach PSN
- PSN servers are experiencing an outage or maintenance window
- Router or modem needs to be restarted
- NAT type is set to Type 3 which restricts connections
- DNS settings are outdated or misconfigured
How to Fix It
-
Check PSN server status first.
Go to status.playstation.com on your phone. If PSN shows problems, wait until they are resolved.
-
Restart your modem and router.
Unplug both devices for at least 60 seconds. Plug the modem back in first, then the router. Wait for full reconnection.
-
Run the PS4 network connection test.
Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. This shows if your PS4 can reach the internet and PSN.
-
Forget your Wi-Fi network and reconnect.
Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection. Delete the saved network and set it up fresh with your Wi-Fi password.
-
Set your DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS).
During network setup, choose Custom and enter 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS. Enter 8.8.4.4 as the secondary DNS.
When to Call a Professional
If restarting your network equipment and changing DNS settings does not help, contact your internet provider. They can verify no ports are being blocked that PlayStation needs to work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this error mean my PS4 is broken?
No — this is a network error, not a hardware problem. Your PS4 is fine — it just cannot reach the internet right now. Fixing your connection will resolve it.
What does NAT Type 3 mean and is it bad?
NAT Type 3 means your connection is very restricted. It can block PS4 from connecting to PSN and other players. Try enabling UPnP in your router settings to improve this.
Why does this happen only on my PS4 and not other devices?
Your PS4 may have different network settings than your phone or computer. Other devices might be using updated DNS settings automatically. Setting up the PS4 network connection manually usually solves the difference.
