MyQ Connection

Chamberlain Garage Door Opener

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

MyQ connection failures are usually caused by 5GHz Wi-Fi (MyQ requires 2.4GHz), router placement too far from the garage, or a stuck hub status. Confirm 2.4GHz coverage in the garage and reset the hub before re-pairing.

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm your home Wi-Fi has a 2.4GHz network available. The MyQ hub will not connect to 5GHz networks. On many modern routers you must temporarily separate the bands or pause the 5GHz radio during setup.

  2. Test the Wi-Fi signal in the garage by standing where the hub is mounted and checking signal strength on a phone. If signal is weak, install a Wi-Fi range extender between the router and the garage.

  3. Look at the LED status light on the hub. Slow blinking blue means it is in pairing mode. Steady blue means connected. No light or red means a power or fault issue.

  4. To reset the MyQ hub, press and hold the settings button on the hub for 10 seconds until the LED turns off, then release. The hub will reboot in pairing mode (slow blue blink).

  5. Open the MyQ app, sign in, and follow the Add Device flow. When prompted, select your 2.4GHz network and enter the password. The hub should connect within 60 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does MyQ keep losing connection after working for a while?

Intermittent disconnects are usually caused by Wi-Fi signal that is barely adequate. Even brief signal drops cause the hub to mark itself offline. Move the router closer or add an extender.

Does MyQ work without internet?

No. MyQ requires an active internet connection to work — even local control through the app routes through MyQ servers. If your internet is down, MyQ does not work, but the wall buttons and remotes still operate the door normally.

Why is MyQ asking for a subscription for Amazon Key or other features?

Chamberlain introduced subscription tiers for some MyQ features. Basic open/close and notifications remain free for most users, but in-vehicle and partner integrations now require a paid plan. Check the MyQ website for current pricing.
