Bluetooth Drops

Oticon Hearing Aid

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Oticon Bluetooth drops are usually caused by interference, low aid battery, or a phone that has switched to another paired device. Fix interference and verify the phone is the active streaming device.

Affected Models

  • Oticon Real
  • Oticon More
  • Oticon Intent
  • Oticon Own
  • Oticon Zircon

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth interference from Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, microwaves, or other devices
  • Low aid battery causing intermittent connection
  • Phone switching streaming to another paired device (smartwatch, car)
  • Aid firmware out of date
  • Distance between phone and aids beyond 10 meters with obstacles

How to Fix It

  1. Charge the aids fully.

Low battery causes Bluetooth instability. For rechargeable aids, charge to 100%. For battery-powered aids, install fresh zinc-air batteries.

  2. Reduce wireless interference.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi routers, baby monitors, and microwave ovens can interfere with Bluetooth. Move your phone away from interference sources, or switch your Wi-Fi to 5 GHz where possible.

  3. Check active streaming device.

If your phone is paired with several Bluetooth devices (smartwatch, car, headphones), it may switch streaming. Make the Oticon aids the active streaming device in Settings > Bluetooth.

  4. Update aid firmware.

Open Oticon Companion and check for firmware updates under Settings > Hearing Aid Firmware. Older firmware can have Bluetooth bugs that updates fix.

  5. Re-pair the aids.

If drops persist, fully unpair and re-pair the aids. Forget the aids in Bluetooth settings, then run pairing fresh from Oticon Companion.

When to Call a Professional

Your audiologist can update aid firmware via Genie 2 software and run diagnostic tests if connection issues persist after standard troubleshooting.
