Battery Drain

ReSound Hearing Aid

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Fast battery drain on ReSound hearing aids is usually caused by Bluetooth streaming, weak or stale zinc-air batteries, or a charger contact issue on rechargeable models. Identify whether streaming is the cause first.

Affected Models

  • ReSound ONE
  • ReSound Nexia
  • ReSound Omnia
  • ReSound Linx Quattro
  • ReSound Key

Common Causes

  • Heavy Bluetooth streaming (TV, phone calls, music) draining batteries
  • Stale or low-quality zinc-air batteries (battery model)
  • Charger contacts dirty or aids not seated properly (rechargeable)
  • Charger not receiving power
  • Older aids with degraded internal battery (rechargeable models, 3+ years old)

How to Fix It

  1. Reduce streaming time.

Bluetooth streaming uses significantly more power than normal listening. If you stream phone calls, TV, or music many hours per day, expect shorter battery life. Cap streaming to half the day to extend life.

  2. Use fresh zinc-air batteries.

On battery-powered models, never use batteries that have been activated for over a week. Wait 2 minutes after pulling the sticker off a fresh battery before inserting — this lets the air activate the cell fully.

  3. Clean charger contacts.

On rechargeable models, dirt or wax on the contacts prevents proper charging. Wipe the aid contacts and the charger pins with a dry cloth. Make sure the aids are seated properly with the LEDs lit.

  4. Check charger power supply.

Verify the charger LED is on and the USB cable is fully plugged in. If the charger is being used with a phone charger brick, confirm the brick supplies enough power.

  5. Replace internal battery (rechargeable, after 3+ years).

Lithium-ion cells in rechargeable aids degrade with age. If your aid lasted 24+ hours when new and now lasts only 8, the cell needs replacement. Audiologists can do this with a small fee — often less than buying new aids.

When to Call a Professional

If a rechargeable ReSound aid lasts under 8 hours after years of use, the internal battery has degraded. Your audiologist can replace the rechargeable battery cell — this is usually an in-clinic service, not a full aid replacement.
