Charging Error

Signia Hearing Aid

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A red or flashing LED on a Signia charger means the aids are not charging correctly. Most cases are dirty contacts, aids not seated properly, or a charger power problem.

Affected Models

  • Signia Pure Charge&Go
  • Signia Styletto
  • Signia Pure
  • Signia Active
  • Signia Pure 312

Common Causes

  • Wax or dirt on the aid charging contacts
  • Aids not seated properly in the cradle
  • Charger USB cable damaged or unplugged
  • Charger placed in a power-saving USB port
  • Internal battery degraded after 3+ years of use

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the aid contacts.

Wipe the metal pads on each aid with a dry cloth or the brush that came with the aids. Skin oils, sweat, and wax build up and block the electrical connection.

  2. Clean the charger contacts.

Use the cleaning brush to clear any debris from the charging cradle pins. Look for any visible damage to the pins.

  3. Seat the aids correctly.

Place each aid in its labeled side of the charger. The LED on the charger should illuminate when an aid is properly seated. If no LED, the aid is not contacting the pins — adjust slightly.

  4. Verify the charger has power.

Look at the charger LED with no aids present. If off, the USB cable or power source has failed. Try a different USB-A power adapter.

  5. Avoid power-saving USB ports.

Some laptops and power strips have USB ports that turn off after periods of inactivity. Use a wall outlet adapter rather than a laptop USB port for reliable overnight charging.

When to Call a Professional

If contacts and charger check out fine but the aids still will not charge, the internal lithium battery has degraded. Signia audiologists can replace the cell in clinic without replacing the aid.
