Whistling Feedback
Signia Hearing Aid
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Whistling on Signia hearing aids is acoustic feedback — usually caused by a poor dome fit, earwax in the ear canal, or a degraded wax filter. Check the dome fit and clean the aid first.
Affected Models
- Signia Pure Charge&Go
- Signia Pure
- Signia Styletto
- Signia Insio
- Signia Active
- Signia Silk
Common Causes
- Dome too small for your ear canal
- Earwax buildup reflecting sound back to the microphone
- Volume turned up too high
- Wax filter (ClickDome) blocked
- Receiver tube damage allowing sound leakage
How to Fix It
-
Check the dome fit.
The soft dome at the end of the receiver should sit snugly in your ear canal. If it slides easily or feels loose, request a larger size from your audiologist.
-
Have your ears checked for wax.
Even small wax buildup causes feedback. See your audiologist or doctor for an ear check. Avoid cotton buds — they make wax worse by pushing it deeper.
-
Replace the wax filter (ClickDome / wax guard).
Signia aids have a small wax guard at the receiver tip. Use the dispenser tool that came with the aids to replace it. A blocked filter alters acoustics and can contribute to feedback.
-
Lower the volume in the app.
Use the Signia app to reduce volume by 1-2 steps. If the whistling stops, the amplification is exceeding what your current fit supports. Your audiologist can refit or recalibrate.
-
Run feedback calibration at your audiologist.
Connexx software has an in-ear feedback test that learns your specific ear acoustics. This is essential after any dome change or after wax removal — it lets the aid set safe amplification limits without feedback.
When to Call a Professional
If domes and cleaning do not stop persistent whistling, your audiologist can refit different dome sizes, run feedback calibration in Connexx software, or replace the receiver tube.
