HC
Blue Star Split AC
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
HC on a Blue Star AC means the outdoor unit has detected an overcurrent or Power Factor Correction (PFC) fault. Blue Star inverter ACs shut the compressor down when HC appears to protect the inverter board and compressor windings from high-current damage. This code requires a technician — do not attempt multiple restarts.
Affected Models
- Blue Star IC Series Inverter
- Blue Star IC318YLTX
- Blue Star IC512YLTX
- Blue Star 5-Star Inverter Split AC
- Blue Star 3-Star Inverter Split AC
Common Causes
- Outdoor PCB PFC module fault — capacitor or inductor failure
- Compressor drawing excessive current due to wear or refrigerant system fault
- Mains voltage below the operating range for the inverter circuit
- Power surge that damaged the outdoor PCB power section
- Outdoor unit heat exchanger badly blocked reducing heat rejection and increasing compressor load
- Refrigerant overcharge from a previous service visit
How to Fix It
-
Switch off at the remote and at the circuit breaker.
Wait at least 15 minutes. This allows the outdoor PCB capacitors to discharge fully and any thermal protection inside the compressor to reset.
-
Clean the outdoor unit condenser fins.
Use a garden hose on a low-pressure setting to rinse the outdoor coil fins from the inside out. A heavily fouled coil forces the compressor to run at high current continuously. Before cleaning, switch off the circuit breaker.
-
Attempt one restart after verifying airflow is clear.
If HC was triggered by a power event or temporary overload, one restart after the rest period may clear it. If HC returns, do not attempt further restarts — call Blue Star service.
-
Call Blue Star customer care to book a technician.
Describe the HC code to the customer care team. They will dispatch a technician with the appropriate diagnostic tools for Blue Star inverter AC models.
When to Call a Professional
HC on Blue Star requires a licensed HVAC technician. Blue Star customer care: 1800-209-1177. Blue Star has one of the largest AC service networks in India, originally built for their commercial AC business — residential service quality is generally high.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Blue Star considered a commercial AC brand?
Blue Star started as a commercial and industrial refrigeration and AC company in 1943. They entered the residential split AC market later, bringing the same engineering quality standards. Blue Star inverter ACs are popular in India's hotter climate zones because they are designed with Indian power conditions (voltage fluctuations) in mind.
Can HC on Blue Star be prevented with a voltage stabiliser?
If the HC is caused by mains voltage fluctuations, a servo-controlled voltage stabiliser (5 kVA or larger) can help maintain stable input voltage and reduce HC occurrences. However, if the HC is from a failed PFC component or compressor issue, a stabiliser will not prevent it. A technician diagnosis identifies the actual cause before you invest in a stabiliser.
