What Does This Error Mean?

F1 on a Carrier AC means the indoor ambient temperature sensor (room thermistor) has a fault. This sensor reads the room temperature so the AC knows when the target temperature has been reached. A failed sensor causes F1 and the system stops — without accurate room temperature data, the AC cannot operate safely.
