E3
Daikin Split AC
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
E3 on a Daikin AC means the discharge pipe (hot gas pipe) coming out of the outdoor compressor has reached an abnormally high temperature. Daikin stops the compressor to prevent serious damage. The most common cause is low refrigerant or a blocked outdoor unit.
Affected Models
- Daikin FTKF Series
- Daikin FTKG Series
- Daikin Inverter Split AC (all models)
- Daikin 1 Ton / 1.5 Ton / 2 Ton Inverter
Common Causes
- Low refrigerant (gas) level — most common cause
- Outdoor unit heat exchanger blocked by dirt, leaves, or debris
- Outdoor fan not spinning — motor or capacitor fault
- Discharge pipe thermistor sensor faulty
- Compressor running in high ambient temperature above rated limit
How to Fix It
-
Turn off the AC and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Continuing to run the AC with E3 can permanently damage the compressor. Switch off at the breaker if needed.
-
Check that the outdoor unit is not blocked.
Clear any leaves, debris, or objects within 50 cm of the outdoor unit on all sides. The outdoor unit needs airflow to reject heat.
-
Check that the outdoor fan is spinning.
When the AC starts, you should hear the outdoor fan running. If the fan is not spinning, do not run the AC — call a technician.
-
Call a technician to check refrigerant level.
Low refrigerant causes the compressor to overheat. Only a licensed technician can measure and refill refrigerant.
When to Call a Professional
E3 always requires a licensed HVAC technician. Refrigerant handling is regulated and requires certification. Daikin India customer care: 1800-103-3666.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I reset E3 myself?
You can clear the error by switching the AC off and on, but E3 will return if the underlying cause is not fixed. Do not keep running the unit — call a technician.
Is E3 the same as high pressure fault?
E3 is the discharge pipe overtemperature fault, which is related to but different from a high pressure fault. Both often have the same root cause: low refrigerant or poor outdoor airflow.
