Not Cooling

Electra Split AC

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

An Electra AC that runs but does not cool the room is usually caused by: dirty air filters blocking airflow, the AC set to fan-only mode instead of cooling mode, low refrigerant from a slow leak, or a blocked outdoor unit preventing heat rejection. Start with the simple checks — many not-cooling problems are solved without calling a technician.

Affected Models

  • Electra Avante Inverter
  • Electra Classic Inverter
  • Electra Alpha Series
  • Electra Split AC (all inverter models)
  • Electra 1 Ton / 1.5 Ton / 2 Ton Inverter

Common Causes

  • AC set to Fan mode — blowing air but not activating the compressor
  • Set temperature already met — compressor idle because room is at target temperature
  • Clogged air filters — severely restricted airflow reducing cooling output
  • Outdoor unit airflow blocked — condenser cannot reject heat
  • Low refrigerant — slow leak has reduced the refrigerant charge
  • Outdoor unit too small for the room size — system undersized from installation

How to Fix It

  1. Check the remote control mode setting.

Make sure the remote is set to Cool mode (snowflake icon), not Fan mode (fan icon) or Dry mode. Also check that the set temperature is lower than the current room temperature — if the room is already at or below the target, the compressor will not run.

  2. Clean the air filters.

Blocked filters are the most common cause of reduced cooling. Slide out the filters from behind the front panel, wash them with warm water, let them dry completely, and reinstall. A clean filter can immediately restore full cooling performance.

  3. Check the outdoor unit.

Ensure the outdoor unit has adequate clearance on all sides. Listen for the outdoor fan running and the compressor humming. A completely silent outdoor unit when the AC is in cool mode indicates the compressor is not starting.

  4. Check whether ice has formed on the indoor copper pipes.

Ice on the copper pipes coming out of the indoor unit indicates either very blocked filters or low refrigerant. If you see ice, switch the AC to fan-only mode for 1–2 hours to defrost, then clean the filters and try cooling again.

  5. If none of the above resolves it, call a technician.

Low refrigerant requires professional diagnosis and recharging. A technician will check pressures and inspect for leaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Electra AC blow air but not cool?

If the unit is blowing air but not cooling, first check the remote — it is likely set to Fan mode instead of Cool mode. If it is in Cool mode and still not cooling, the compressor may not be starting due to a fault or the refrigerant level is low.

How do I know if my Electra AC is low on refrigerant?

Signs of low refrigerant include: the AC runs continuously but never cools the room to the set temperature, ice forms on the indoor pipes, you hear a faint hissing sound from the indoor unit, or the error code F1 appears. Only a technician with a pressure gauge can confirm the actual refrigerant level.
