LP

Electrolux Split AC

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

LP means the indoor and outdoor units do not recognise each other as a matched pair. This is common after installation errors or when one unit is replaced without the other. A licensed installer must verify the model compatibility and wiring before the system will work.

Affected Models

  • Electrolux EXH09HL1W
  • Electrolux EXH12HL1W
  • Electrolux ESV09CRK
  • Electrolux EWHI09
  • Electrolux Inverter Split System

Common Causes

  • Indoor and outdoor units are different models that are not compatible with each other
  • Communication wiring connected to wrong terminals during installation
  • One unit replaced (indoor or outdoor) without replacing the matched partner unit
  • Faulty communication wire or connector between the indoor and outdoor units
  • Indoor or outdoor PCB communication chip has failed

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off the AC and locate the model number stickers on both the indoor and outdoor units.

The indoor unit sticker is usually behind the front cover; the outdoor sticker is on the side panel.

  2. Cross-check both model numbers against the Electrolux compatibility chart in the installation manual.

If you do not have the manual, search the model numbers on the Electrolux website or call their support line.

  3. If the units are compatible, inspect the communication wiring between the indoor and outdoor units.

The communication wire must connect terminal 3 (or S) on the indoor unit to the matching terminal on the outdoor unit.

  4. Check that all wire connections are tight and that no wires are swapped or reversed.

A swapped L/N/S terminal is a common installation error that triggers LP.

  5. Restore power and restart — if LP clears, a wiring error was the cause.

If LP persists after confirming wiring is correct, the units may be genuinely incompatible.

When to Call a Professional

LP almost always requires a technician or the original installer to resolve. The installer must verify that both units are from a matched set and that wiring follows the installation manual exactly. Never try to force incompatible units to work together — it can damage both PCBs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can LP appear on a brand new installation?

Yes — LP is actually more common on new installations than old ones. A wiring mistake during installation (swapped terminals) is the most frequent cause. The installer should return and recheck all connections if LP appears at first startup.

Can I replace just the indoor unit with a different Electrolux model?

Only if the new indoor unit is listed as compatible with your existing outdoor unit. Electrolux inverter systems use matched refrigerant circuits — mixing models can cause LP and refrigerant faults. Always check the compatibility chart before purchasing a replacement unit.

Will LP damage the units if left on?

The system will not operate in a mismatched state — it will shut down to prevent damage. However, repeated restart attempts on mismatched units can stress the PCBs over time. Leave the AC off until the compatibility or wiring issue is resolved.
