E5

Haier Split AC

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E5 on a Haier AC means the low pressure protection on the outdoor unit has activated. Refrigerant suction pressure has dropped below the minimum safe level. Haier stops the compressor to prevent it from running without adequate refrigerant and oil circulation. A gas leak is the most common cause.

Affected Models

  • Haier 1 Ton Inverter
  • Haier 1.5 Ton Inverter
  • Haier 2 Ton Inverter
  • Haier HSU Series
  • Haier Pearl Series
  • Haier Turbo Cool Series

Common Causes

  • Refrigerant leak at the flare joints (most common) or from the copper pipe
  • Indoor evaporator coil fully iced due to blocked air filter
  • Expansion valve stuck in closed position
  • Service valve left partially closed after previous maintenance
  • Low pressure switch or suction thermistor fault

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off the AC at the remote and circuit breaker.

Do not restart. Running the compressor with very low refrigerant causes oil starvation and overheating of the compressor bearings.

  2. Check and clean the indoor air filter.

A severely blocked filter causes the evaporator to freeze, which can drive suction pressure to E5 levels. If the filter is visibly clogged, clean it and allow 2 hours for the coil to defrost before attempting a restart.

  3. If the filter was clean or E5 returns after cleaning, call Haier service.

A refrigerant leak requires a pressure test and leak detection using an electronic leak detector or UV dye. Haier technicians carry standard HVAC diagnostic equipment.

  4. Ask for a full leak test before refrigerant top-up.

Haier service teams in India are required to perform a leak test before adding refrigerant. If the technician skips the leak test, request it specifically.

When to Call a Professional

E5 on Haier requires a licensed technician. Haier customer care India: 1800-258-6767. Compressor damage from operating without refrigerant is not covered under warranty — stop the AC immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

What refrigerant does Haier use in its inverter ACs?

Newer Haier inverter split ACs (2019 onwards) use R32 refrigerant, which has lower global warming potential than the older R22 and R410A. Older models may use R410A. The refrigerant type is printed on the outdoor unit nameplate — always check before adding any refrigerant.

How can I tell if my Haier AC has a refrigerant leak?

Signs of a refrigerant leak include: ice forming on the indoor unit, AC running but not cooling effectively, hissing sound from the indoor or outdoor unit, and the evaporator becoming very cold near the unit but warm air from the vents. E5 itself is a strong indicator. A technician can confirm with manifold gauges in under 10 minutes.
