E5

Lloyd Split AC

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

E5 on a Lloyd AC indicates a low pressure fault in the refrigerant circuit. The suction side pressure has dropped below the minimum operating threshold. Lloyd stops the compressor to prevent it from running without adequate lubrication. A refrigerant leak is the most likely cause.

Affected Models

  • Lloyd 1 Ton Inverter Split AC
  • Lloyd 1.5 Ton Inverter Split AC
  • Lloyd 2 Ton Inverter Split AC
  • Lloyd 5-in-1 Convertible AC
  • Lloyd GLS Series Inverter

Common Causes

  • Refrigerant gas leak — most common cause
  • Blocked indoor air filter causing the evaporator to ice up and starve the suction line
  • Expansion valve stuck closed — refrigerant cannot flow from high side to low side
  • Service valve not fully open after a previous maintenance visit
  • Low pressure switch faulty

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off immediately and clean the indoor filter.

A heavily blocked filter can cause the evaporator to freeze and drop suction pressure to E5 levels. Clean the filter, allow 1-2 hours for the evaporator to fully defrost, then restart.

  2. If E5 returns after filter cleaning, do not restart — call Lloyd service.

Refrigerant leak is the likely cause if filter cleaning did not solve E5. Continued operation damages the compressor.

  3. Ask the technician to locate and fix the leak before adding gas.

Insist on a leak test before any refrigerant is added. A top-up without fixing the leak is a waste of money — E5 will return as the gas escapes again.

When to Call a Professional

E5 on Lloyd requires a licensed technician. Lloyd (Havells) customer care: 1860-258-5858. Do not operate the AC with E5 — running low on refrigerant causes compressor oil starvation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can a Lloyd AC run with a slow refrigerant leak before E5 appears?

This depends on the size of the leak. A very small leak may take 2-3 years before the refrigerant level drops enough to trigger E5. A larger leak (bad flare joint) can cause E5 within weeks or months of installation. If E5 appeared within a year of installation, the installation flare joints should be inspected first.
