F1
Voltas Split AC
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
F1 on a Voltas AC means the indoor ambient temperature sensor (room temperature thermistor) has a fault. This sensor measures room temperature so the AC can control cooling to reach the target temperature. F1 triggers a safety shutdown — without an accurate room temperature reading the AC cannot operate correctly.
Affected Models
- Voltas Inverter Split AC (all capacities)
- Voltas 3 Star Inverter
- Voltas 5 Star Inverter
- Voltas Adjustable Inverter
- Voltas SAC series
Common Causes
- Indoor ambient thermistor failed — resistance outside the normal range
- Thermistor connector loose at the indoor PCB
- Thermistor wire damaged — pinched by the front panel during servicing or installation
- Dust or moisture on the thermistor probe causing incorrect readings
- Indoor PCB fault causing incorrect reading of the ambient sensor
How to Fix It
-
Switch off the AC at the remote and main switch. Wait 5 minutes and restart.
If F1 clears after a reset, monitor the AC over the next few cycles. A persistent F1 confirms the thermistor has failed.
-
Clean the indoor unit air filter and front panel grille.
The ambient thermistor reads room air drawn through the front panel. Dust accumulation on the front panel or sensor probe can cause false readings.

When to Call a Professional
F1 requires a Voltas authorised technician. Voltas customer care: 1800-209-2000. A technician will test thermistor resistance at room temperature and replace the sensor if faulty.
