F3
Voltas Split AC
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
F3 on a Voltas AC means the outdoor coil (condenser pipe) temperature sensor has a fault. This sensor monitors the temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger coil during operation. When the sensor fails or its reading goes out of range, Voltas shuts down the compressor to prevent damage.
Affected Models
- Voltas Inverter Split AC (all capacities)
- Voltas 3 Star Inverter
- Voltas 5 Star Inverter
- Voltas Adjustable Inverter
- Voltas SAC series
Common Causes
- Outdoor coil thermistor failed — resistance value outside the acceptable range
- Thermistor wire broken or damaged inside the outdoor unit
- Connector at the outdoor PCB loose, corroded, or pulled out
- Thermistor clip dislodged from the coil pipe it is supposed to monitor
- Outdoor PCB fault causing incorrect sensor reading
How to Fix It
-
Turn off the AC from the remote and then at the main switch or circuit breaker.
Wait at least 5 minutes before restoring power.
-
Switch power back on and test whether F3 has cleared.
A power cycle clears transient errors. If F3 reappears within a few minutes, the thermistor or its circuit has a genuine fault.
-
Visually check the outdoor unit from outside (do not open it).
Look for obvious damage — dented coil fins, pest activity, or water pooling around the unit base. Report what you see to the technician.
-
Contact Voltas customer care (1800-209-2000) to book a service visit.
Provide the model number (found on the indoor unit sticker) and the exact error code F3 when booking.
When to Call a Professional
F3 requires a Voltas-authorised technician. Do not attempt to open the outdoor unit — it contains high-voltage components. Voltas has a wide service network across India — call 1800-209-2000 or book via the Voltas app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is F3 covered under Voltas warranty?
If the AC is within its warranty period (typically 1 year comprehensive, 5 years compressor), thermistor replacement is covered at no cost. Contact Voltas service with your purchase invoice to verify warranty status. Keep the invoice and warranty card — you will need them for a claim.
Can I continue using my Voltas AC with an F3 error?
No — the AC will not cool when F3 is active. The compressor is locked out for protection. Do not repeatedly try to restart — this does not help and adds unnecessary stress to the system.
