Battery Not Charging
Asus Laptop
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Battery not charging on an Asus laptop is usually caused by a worn battery, a wrong wattage charger, a charge limit set in MyAsus or BIOS, or a failed battery controller. Check the charger first.
Affected Models
- Asus ROG
- Asus TUF Gaming
- Asus VivoBook
- Asus ZenBook
- Asus ExpertBook
Common Causes
- Worn battery cells from age and charge cycles
- Charger not delivering enough wattage (especially on ROG laptops needing 180W+)
- Battery Care Mode or charge threshold set in MyAsus or BIOS
- Damaged USB-C or DC charging port
- Failed charging IC on the motherboard
How to Fix It
-
Check the charger and cable.
Make sure the charger LED is on and the connector is fully seated. Use a charger of the correct wattage — ROG laptops often need 180W or 240W chargers and will refuse to charge from a lower-wattage adapter.
-
Check Battery Care Mode in MyAsus.
Open MyAsus app and check the battery health settings. If Battery Care Mode is set to 60% or 80%, the battery will stop charging at that threshold by design. Switch to Full Capacity Mode if you want 100% charging.
-
Reset BIOS battery settings.
Reboot, tap F2 to enter BIOS. Look for any battery threshold or charge limit settings. Reset BIOS to defaults (F9) if you are unsure.
-
Inspect the charging port.
Look at the USB-C or DC jack for bent pins, debris, or damage. Clean carefully with compressed air. A wobbly port indicates physical damage requiring repair.
-
Run the battery health check.
MyAsus and Windows both report battery wear. If the battery is reported as Replace, the cells are exhausted. Asus replacement batteries are available — most ROG batteries are accessible from the bottom panel.
When to Call a Professional
If a known-good charger and battery do not resolve charging, the charging IC on the motherboard has failed. This requires board-level repair by a technician.
