Smart Card / SD Card Error

Various CPAP Machine

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

A smart card or SD card error means the CPAP cannot read or write to the data card. The card may be full, inserted wrong, or corrupted. Remove and reinsert the card, or replace with a new one.

Affected Models

  • ResMed AirSense 10
  • ResMed AirSense 11
  • Philips DreamStation
  • Most CPAP machines with data recording

Common Causes

  • SD card full — needs downloading or replacing
  • Card not fully inserted
  • Card corrupted
  • Wrong type of SD card
  • Card contacts dirty

How to Fix It

  1. Remove and reinsert the SD card.

Make sure it clicks into place. The label side faces the correct direction (check your manual).

  2. Try a different SD card.

Use a standard SD or micro SD card (with adapter), 2-32GB. Format as FAT32.

  3. Download your data and clear the card.

Use OSCAR (free software) to download your sleep data to a computer. Then format the card to free space.

  4. The CPAP works fine without the card.

The card only records data — therapy continues normally without it. Fix the card at your convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my doctor see my CPAP data?

If you use a cloud-connected CPAP (ResMed myAir, Philips DreamMapper), yes — your provider can see compliance data. The SD card is a local backup.

What is OSCAR?

OSCAR is a free, open-source software for viewing detailed CPAP data from your SD card. It shows AHI, leak rates, pressure changes, and much more than the machine's built-in display.
