A Kawasaki that stalls at idle usually has a dirty throttle body, a clogged idle air control circuit, or a sensor providing bad data. A throttle body service often fixes recurring stalling.

Common Causes
- Dirty throttle bodies (carbon buildup at idle bypass)
- Failed idle air control or sub-throttle valve
- Failed sidestand switch (cuts ignition when stand is down)
- Faulty throttle position sensor
- Clogged fuel injectors or weak fuel pump
How to Fix It

Check the sidestand switch.
If the stand is partially down or the switch is faulty, the bike cuts ignition when in gear with the clutch out, simulating stalling. Make sure the stand is fully up and the switch clicks. Replace if faulty.

Clean the throttle bodies.
Remove the airbox and use throttle body cleaner to clean the bores and butterflies. Carbon buildup at the idle bypass passages causes erratic idle. This is a routine service item.

Check the throttle position sensor.
An out-of-adjustment TPS sends incorrect throttle data, causing stalling. A dealer can verify and re-zero the TPS using KDS. DIY adjustment requires an oscilloscope or multimeter and the Kawasaki service manual procedure.

Inspect the fuel system.
A weak fuel pump or clogged injectors cause stalling under load. Replace the fuel filter (where serviceable) and have a dealer test fuel pressure if stalling persists.
When to Call a Professional
If sensor checks and a basic throttle body cleaning do not stop stalling, a dealer or qualified mechanic can use KDS diagnostic tools to identify the root cause.
