No Maps Installed
TomTom GPS Navigation Device
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
Your TomTom has no map data installed and cannot navigate. This usually happens after a factory reset, a failed map update that deleted the old maps, or if you purchased a second-hand device that was wiped. You need to install maps using MyDrive Connect on a computer.

How to Fix It
-
Download and install MyDrive Connect from TomTom's website on your computer.
MyDrive Connect is the free desktop app used to manage maps, software, and services on your TomTom.
-
Connect the TomTom to your computer with the USB cable and open MyDrive Connect.
The app will automatically detect your device and show available updates and map installations.
-
Sign in to your TomTom account or create one — your map license is linked to your account.
If your device includes lifetime maps, the license is registered to your TomTom account. Sign in to unlock it.
-
Click Add Maps and select your region. Click Install.
Choose the map region you need — Europe, North America, etc. The download can take 30–90 minutes.
-
Do not disconnect the device until the installation is complete and MyDrive Connect shows a success message.
Disconnecting during installation corrupts the map files and you will need to start again.
When to Call a Professional
If MyDrive Connect cannot install maps after multiple attempts, contact TomTom support. The device may need a firmware restore that only TomTom support can perform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my TomTom without maps installed?
No — without maps, TomTom GPS cannot show roads, calculate routes, or provide navigation. You need at least one map region installed to use any navigation features.
If I reset my TomTom, do I lose my maps?
Yes — a factory reset deletes all installed maps and personal data. After a reset, you need to reinstall maps using MyDrive Connect. If your device includes lifetime maps, reinstalling is free — just sign in to your TomTom account.
