Speed Camera Not Working

TomTom GPS Navigation Device

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Your TomTom is not warning you about speed cameras on the route. Speed camera alerts on TomTom require either a Speed Cameras subscription or the Safety Alerts service. The alerts can also be disabled in settings, or the speed camera database may be out of date.

Affected Models

  • TomTom GO 520
  • TomTom GO 620
  • TomTom GO 5200
  • TomTom GO 6200
  • All TomTom GPS devices with speed camera feature

Common Causes

  • Speed camera subscription has expired
  • Speed camera alerts disabled in settings
  • Speed camera database out of date
  • Device does not have speed camera service for your region
  • Speed cameras not available in your country due to local laws

How to Fix It

  1. Go to Settings > Warnings and ensure Speed Cameras is turned on.

Speed camera alerts can be individually disabled in settings. Turn the toggle on.

  2. Check your TomTom account to confirm the Speed Cameras subscription is active.

Go to TomTom's website and sign in. Speed camera alerts require a separate subscription on older models.

  3. Update the speed camera database via MyDrive Connect or Wi-Fi update.

Speed camera locations change regularly. An outdated database misses new cameras and may not warn for moved ones.

  4. Confirm speed camera alerts are legal in your country.

Speed camera warnings are illegal in some countries (Germany, Switzerland, etc.). TomTom disables them automatically in these regions.

  5. Check Settings > Sounds & Warnings for alert sound settings.

The audio alert for speed cameras may be turned off separately from the visual warning.

When to Call a Professional

Speed camera alerts are a subscription/data issue, not hardware. If your subscription is active and alerts still do not work, contact TomTom support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are TomTom speed camera alerts free?

On newer TomTom GO models, speed camera alerts are included as part of the lifetime services. On older models, speed camera data requires a separate paid subscription. Check your device's product listing or MyDrive Connect to see what is included.

How often does TomTom update its speed camera database?

TomTom updates its speed camera database regularly — typically every 3 months for fixed cameras. Mobile speed camera locations are crowd-sourced and update more frequently. Keep your subscription active and your device updated to always have the latest data.
