Voice Not Working
TomTom GPS Navigation Device
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Your TomTom is not speaking turn-by-turn voice directions. The most common cause is the volume being turned to zero or voice guidance being disabled in settings. Audio routed to a Bluetooth device or FM transmitter that is not connected will also cause silence.
Affected Models
- TomTom GO 520
- TomTom GO 620
- TomTom GO 5200
- TomTom GO 6200
- All TomTom GPS devices with speakers
Common Causes
- Device volume at zero
- Voice guidance disabled in settings
- Audio output set to Bluetooth or FM (not connected)
- Voice file corrupted or deleted
- Speaker hardware fault (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Tap the volume icon on the map screen and increase the volume.
The volume slider controls navigation voice volume. Make sure it is not at minimum.
-
Go to Settings > Sounds & Warnings and ensure Voice Guidance is turned on.
Voice guidance can be disabled entirely in settings. Turn it back on.
-
Check Settings > Sound and confirm audio output is set to the device speaker.
If audio is set to output through Bluetooth or FM transmitter and those are not active, you will hear nothing.
-
Go to Settings > Voices and ensure a voice is selected and installed.
If no voice is installed, the device has nothing to speak. Download a voice through MyDrive Connect.
-
Restart the device to reset the audio system.
A software audio crash can silence the speaker. A restart usually restores normal audio.
When to Call a Professional
If you can confirm the volume is up, voice is enabled, audio output is set to the speaker, and you still hear nothing, the speaker hardware may be faulty. Contact TomTom support for diagnosis.
