Eero Keeps Disconnecting / Network Drops

Eero Mesh WiFi Router

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Eero network repeatedly disconnecting is most commonly caused by an unstable ISP connection, a modem that is losing sync intermittently, or a node that is at the edge of coverage. Check the modem's connection log first — if the ISP line is dropping, the Eero cannot maintain connectivity.

Affected Models

  • Eero 6
  • Eero 6+
  • Eero Pro 6
  • Eero Pro 6E
  • Eero Max 7
  • Eero (3rd gen)

Common Causes

  • ISP line instability — the internet connection drops periodically, causing all connected devices to lose connectivity
  • Modem overheating or needing a replacement — modem line sync drops cause brief outages
  • Eero node at the edge of mesh coverage losing its backhaul connection intermittently
  • IP address lease renewal causing brief disconnections — can be mitigated with a static IP
  • Firmware update applying on the Eero — takes the network offline for 1–2 minutes

How to Fix It

  1. Check the Eero app activity log.

Open the Eero app → your network → Activity. Look for 'Internet disconnected' events — if these match the times of disconnection, the issue is upstream (ISP or modem), not the Eero. If the app shows the network staying connected but individual devices keep dropping, the issue is WiFi-specific.

  2. Check the modem for instability.

Log into the modem's admin interface (usually 192.168.100.1 for cable modems) and check the event log or signal levels. Frequent 'T3 timeout' or 'T4 timeout' errors in a cable modem log indicate an unstable line — contact the ISP. Modems over 5 years old can develop hardware instability that causes intermittent drops — replacement is often the fix.

  3. Enable automatic channel selection.

In the Eero app, confirm that automatic band and channel selection is enabled — Eero manages this automatically and typically optimizes it well. If a specific Eero node is reconnecting repeatedly, it may be competing with a strong neighboring network on the same channel. Moving the node slightly (even a few feet) can change which nearby networks it sees and reduce interference.

  4. Restart all Eero nodes and the modem.

Unplug the modem for 30 seconds. While the modem is unplugged, unplug all Eero nodes. Reconnect the modem first and wait for it to establish a stable internet connection. Then reconnect the Eero gateway and wait for it to come online before reconnecting the satellite nodes.

  5. Assign a static IP to important devices.

DHCP lease renewals — when the router assigns a new IP address to a device — cause a brief disconnection that some applications interpret as a lost connection. In the Eero app, go to the device → Reserve IP to assign a fixed (static) IP address. This prevents lease renewals from interrupting sensitive applications like video calls or online gaming.

When to Call a Professional

If the Eero app shows frequent 'Internet disconnected' events in the activity log, the issue is with the ISP or modem — contact the ISP to investigate the line quality.
