Eero Not Connecting / No Internet

Eero Mesh WiFi Router

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Eero not connecting to the internet is usually caused by an ISP outage, the modem needing a restart, or the Eero gateway being on the wrong network port on the modem. Restart the modem first, then restart the Eero gateway — in that order.

Affected Models

  • Eero 6
  • Eero 6+
  • Eero Pro 6
  • Eero Pro 6E
  • Eero Max 7
  • Eero (3rd gen)

Common Causes

  • ISP (internet provider) outage — the most common cause; the Eero itself is fine
  • Modem needs a restart — modems freeze and lose sync with the ISP over time
  • Eero connected to the wrong port on the modem — some modems have a LAN port vs WAN port
  • IP address conflict between the modem and Eero — double NAT situation
  • Eero firmware update in progress — briefly takes the network offline

How to Fix It

  1. Check if the internet is down at the modem.

Before touching the Eero, check the modem provided by your ISP. Look at the modem's internet or WAN light — if it is off or red, the ISP connection is down, not the Eero. Call your ISP's support line or check their outage map online — if the ISP is down, the Eero cannot connect regardless of its own status.

  2. Restart the modem first, then the Eero.

Unplug the modem from power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the modem to fully reconnect — this typically takes 1–2 minutes. Only after the modem's internet light is solid, restart the Eero gateway by unplugging it for 10 seconds and reconnecting. Restarting in this order (modem first, then Eero) is important — the reverse order often does not work.

  3. Confirm the Eero is connected to the correct modem port.

The Eero gateway must be connected to the modem's WAN or Internet output port. Some modems have one WAN port and multiple LAN ports — the Eero should only go into the WAN/Internet port. If the modem is a gateway (modem + router combined), connect the Eero to any of the modem's LAN ports and enable bridge mode or DMZ on the modem.

  4. Check the Eero app for status information.

Open the Eero app on your phone and look at the network status. The app shows whether the Eero is connected to the internet or whether the issue is with the ISP connection. If the app shows 'Internet: Disconnected' with the Eero gateway having a white LED, the modem or ISP is the issue.

  5. Factory reset the Eero gateway as a last resort.

If the Eero previously worked and now cannot connect despite a confirmed working internet connection, a factory reset can clear corrupted configuration. Hold the reset button on the bottom of the Eero gateway for 7 seconds until the LED turns red, then release. After the reset, set up the Eero network fresh via the Eero app — the Eero account remembers your network settings.

When to Call a Professional

If the modem shows a working internet connection (solid internet light) but the Eero still cannot connect, contact Amazon Eero support — there may be a provisioning or account issue.
