Nest WiFi Point Offline
Google Mesh WiFi Router
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Google Nest WiFi point offline means the satellite point cannot connect to the Nest WiFi router. The most common causes are the point being too far from the router, a power interruption, or a software glitch. Restart the offline point by unplugging it for 10 seconds.
Affected Models
- Google Nest WiFi Point
- Google Nest WiFi Pro
- Google WiFi (2016)
Common Causes
- Point too far from the Nest WiFi router — the mesh backhaul signal cannot reach
- Power interruption left the point in an error state
- WiFi interference disrupting the mesh backhaul connection
- Nest WiFi firmware update stuck on the point
- Point hardware fault
How to Fix It
-
Restart the offline Nest WiFi point.
Unplug the offline Nest WiFi point from power, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in. The LED will pulse white during startup. Wait up to 2 minutes for the point to reconnect to the mesh and appear online in the Google Home app.
-
Check the signal strength between the point and router.
Open the Google Home app, select the offline point, and check the Mesh Test or signal strength reading. A poor connection between the point and router means the point is too far away or there is too much interference between them. Move the point to a position that is roughly halfway between the router and where WiFi coverage is needed.
-
Move the point closer to the router.
Google Nest WiFi points work best within 15 metres of the router in open plan spaces, or with no more than 1–2 walls between them. Temporarily place the point in the same room as the router to confirm it reconnects. If it reconnects at close range, gradually move it further out to find the best placement.
-
Remove and re-add the point in Google Home.
Open the Google Home app and select the offline point. Tap Settings → Remove device. After removing, tap + → Set up device → New device and add the point fresh to the network. This re-establishes the point's mesh configuration and often resolves a persistent offline state.
-
Factory reset the offline point.
If re-adding the point does not work, factory reset it by holding the factory reset button (on the bottom) for 10 seconds until the LED turns yellow, then release. After the reset, add the point back to the network via the Google Home app. A factory reset clears any corrupted configuration that prevents the point from rejoining the mesh.
When to Call a Professional
If a Nest WiFi point consistently shows offline even when placed next to the router, the point may have failed. Contact Google Nest support — devices under warranty can be replaced.
