Error 619

Universal ISP/Modem

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 619 means the port used to connect to your ISP has been disconnected or is unavailable. It most often appears on PPPoE or dial-up broadband connections. Windows tried to open a connection port, but it was already closed or not responding. This is often caused by a modem issue or a conflict with security software.

Affected Models

  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 10
  • DSL and PPPoE broadband connections
  • 3G/4G USB modem connections

Common Causes

  • The modem's connection port is unavailable or in a stuck state
  • A firewall or VPN software is blocking the PPPoE port
  • The modem driver is outdated or corrupted
  • A previous connection session did not close cleanly, leaving the port locked
  • The ISP's equipment dropped the session before it could be established

How to Fix It

  1. Restart your modem and your computer. A full reboot clears any stuck port states.

Many Error 619 incidents are one-time glitches caused by a previous session not closing cleanly.

  2. Temporarily disable any VPN software or firewall you are running. Try connecting again.

Security software often blocks the specific port needed for PPPoE authentication.

  3. Open Device Manager, find your modem or network adapter, uninstall it, then restart your PC. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

A corrupted driver can lock up the connection port.

  4. Open Services (search for 'services.msc'). Find 'Remote Access Connection Manager' and 'Telephony'. Right-click each and select Restart.

These Windows services manage dial-up and PPPoE ports. Restarting them unlocks stuck connections.

  5. If using a USB modem, unplug it from your PC, wait 10 seconds, and plug it into a different USB port.

USB modems can get stuck in an error state. A port change forces a fresh initialization.

When to Call a Professional

If the error keeps coming back after multiple restarts and driver updates, contact your ISP. Ask them to check whether your account session is stuck on their server. They can force-clear a stuck session in seconds from their end.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Error 619 mean my modem is broken?

Usually not. Error 619 is most often a software or session conflict, not hardware failure. If restarts and driver reinstalls do not help, then hardware could be a factor. But try all software steps first before replacing any hardware.

Can antivirus software cause Error 619?

Yes. Some antivirus programs aggressively block network ports. Try disabling your antivirus temporarily and connecting. If that fixes it, add an exception for your broadband connection in the antivirus settings.

Why does Error 619 appear with a USB mobile modem?

USB modems are prone to Error 619 when: the USB port has a power issue, the modem's driver has a conflict, or a previous session was not properly ended. Try a different USB port and always use 'safely remove hardware' before unplugging.
