RDK-03036

Xfinity ISP

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

RDK-03036 is an Xfinity error that means your X1 TV box or cable box cannot reach the Xfinity network. The box has lost its connection and cannot retrieve your cable or on-demand content. This error commonly appears after a power outage, modem reboot, or a brief Xfinity service interruption.

Affected Models

  • Xfinity X1 cable boxes
  • Xfinity XG1 box
  • Xfinity Xi5 box
  • Xfinity Xi6 box
  • Any Xfinity TV with an X1 cable box

Common Causes

  • The Xfinity gateway or modem lost its connection and the cable box has not re-registered
  • There is an Xfinity service outage in your area
  • The cable box needs a software update that failed to install
  • The HDMI or coax cable connection between the wall and cable box is loose
  • The cable box itself has crashed and needs a restart

How to Fix It

  1. Restart your Xfinity cable box. Press the power button on the front of the box, or unplug the power cord. Wait 60 seconds, then power it back on. Allow up to 10 minutes for the box to fully restart.

Most RDK-03036 errors clear after a full box restart.

  2. Restart your Xfinity modem or gateway. Unplug its power cord, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Once it is fully online, restart the cable box again.

The cable box cannot connect if the modem is not fully online first.

  3. Check for Xfinity outages. Open the Xfinity app, go to Account > Check for outages. If there is one in your area, wait for Xfinity to resolve it.

RDK-03036 during an outage means nothing is wrong with your equipment — the network is down.

  4. Send a refresh signal to your cable box. Log into your Xfinity account at xfinity.com/myaccount, go to TV > Manage > Refresh Signal.

A signal refresh re-authorizes your box on Xfinity's network, which often clears registration errors.

  5. Check the coax cable going into the back of your cable box. Make sure it is hand-tight. Also check the cable going from the wall to your gateway.

A loose cable at the box prevents it from receiving the channel data it needs.

When to Call a Professional

If RDK-03036 persists for more than a few hours after rebooting and checking for outages, call Xfinity at 1-800-XFINITY. Ask them to send a refresh signal to your cable box. If that does not work, they may need to replace the box — Xfinity will swap it at no cost if the box is rented.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be charged for an Xfinity technician visit to fix RDK-03036?

You will not be charged if the problem is Xfinity's equipment or network. If the technician finds the issue is inside your home (such as damaged wiring you own), there may be a charge. For a rented gateway and box, Xfinity typically resolves issues at no cost.

RDK-03036 appeared after I rebooted my modem. Is that normal?

Yes, this is very common. When the modem reboots, the cable box loses its network registration. After the modem comes back online, the box needs several minutes to re-register. If the error persists for more than 15 minutes after the modem is fully back online, restart the cable box manually.

Can RDK-03036 affect my internet, or just TV?

RDK-03036 is a TV box error — it does not affect your internet service. Your internet runs through the modem or gateway independently of the cable box. If both TV and internet are down, the issue is with the modem or gateway, not just the cable box.
