STBH-1000

Spectrum ISP

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

STBH-1000 is a Spectrum error code that appears on cable TV boxes when the box cannot communicate with Spectrum's network. STBH stands for Set-Top Box Hardware error. The box has a signal or connectivity problem that is preventing it from loading channels or on-demand content. This is often caused by a loose cable, a signal issue, or an account refresh being needed.

Affected Models

  • Spectrum cable TV boxes (all models)
  • Spectrum receiver HD-DTA
  • Spectrum WorldBox
  • Spectrum Guide box
  • Any Spectrum cable TV subscriber

Common Causes

  • The coax cable going into the cable box is loose or has poor signal quality
  • Spectrum has a service outage affecting your local area or node
  • The cable box has not been authorized on Spectrum's network (needs a signal refresh)
  • A splitter in your home is weakening the signal below the level the box requires
  • The cable box has an internal software crash and needs a restart

How to Fix It

  1. Restart the Spectrum cable box. Unplug the power cord from the back of the box. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to 10 minutes for the box to fully reload.

A restart is the fastest fix and resolves STBH-1000 in most cases.

  2. Check the coax cable on the back of the cable box. Hand-tighten it. Also check the coax at the wall outlet.

A loose coax connection is the most common physical cause of STBH-1000.

  3. Check for Spectrum outages. Visit spectrum.net/support/outage-information or call the automated Spectrum line to check for outages in your ZIP code.

STBH-1000 during an outage will resolve automatically when Spectrum restores service.

  4. Log into your Spectrum account at spectrum.net, go to Services > TV > Troubleshoot, and request a signal refresh for your equipment.

A signal refresh re-authorizes your cable box and often clears STBH-1000 within 5 minutes.

  5. If you have a splitter in your home coax setup, try removing it and connecting the cable directly to the box to test.

A weak signal from a splitter is a common but overlooked cause of STBH-1000.

When to Call a Professional

If STBH-1000 persists after rebooting and checking cables, call Spectrum support at 833-267-6094. Ask them to send a signal refresh or re-authorization to your cable box. If signal levels at your box are too low, they will dispatch a technician at no cost to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does STBH-1000 affect my internet service or just TV?

It only affects your cable TV box. Your internet service runs through the modem separately. If your internet is also down at the same time, the issue is broader — likely a Spectrum outage or a problem with the main cable line to your home.

My cable box was working fine and then STBH-1000 appeared randomly. Why?

Signal levels can fluctuate due to temperature changes, aging cable connections, or work done by Spectrum on the local network. A brief drop in signal is sometimes enough to knock the box off its authorization. A restart or signal refresh usually gets it back within minutes.

Will Spectrum charge me for a technician visit about STBH-1000?

Not if the fault is Spectrum's equipment or signal. Spectrum will send a technician at no charge for signal problems outside your home. If the issue is found to be internal wiring you own, there may be a service charge. But for STBH-1000, the cause is usually the coax signal — which is typically Spectrum's responsibility.
