No Internet Access
TP-Link Wi-Fi Router
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
TP-Link 'No Internet' means the router is on and your devices can connect to it, but it cannot reach the internet. The orange WAN light indicates the problem is between the router and the modem — usually the modem needs a restart or the WAN cable is loose.
Affected Models
- TP-Link Archer AX series
- TP-Link Archer A series
- TP-Link Archer C series
- TP-Link Deco mesh system
- TP-Link TL-WR series
Common Causes
- Modem needs a restart — lost sync with ISP
- WAN cable loose or disconnected between modem and router
- ISP outage in your area
- PPPoE credentials incorrect (for DSL/fibre connections requiring login)
- Router firmware crash
- DHCP conflict — router cannot get an IP from the modem
How to Fix It
-
Restart the modem and router in the correct order.
Unplug the modem first. Then unplug the TP-Link router. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the modem back in and wait 60 seconds for it to fully sync with your ISP. Then plug the router back in. This sequence allows the modem to establish a fresh connection before the router requests an IP.
-
Check the WAN cable connection.
The WAN port on a TP-Link router is usually a different colour (blue or yellow) from the LAN ports. Make sure the Ethernet cable from the modem is firmly plugged into the WAN port, not a LAN port. Try replacing the Ethernet cable — cables can fail internally while appearing fine.
-
Check the WAN LED status.
On TP-Link routers, the internet/globe LED shows connection status. Solid orange = connected to modem but no internet from ISP. Blinking orange = WAN connection issue. Solid green = internet connected. If orange, the issue is upstream (ISP or modem), not the router itself.
-
Log into the router and check WAN settings.
Open a browser and go to 192.168.0.1 or tplinkwifi.net. Login (default admin/admin). Go to Basic → Internet or Advanced → Network → Internet. Verify the connection type matches your ISP (Dynamic IP, PPPoE, Static IP, etc.). For PPPoE (DSL), re-enter your ISP username and password.
-
Check for an ISP outage.
Connect a device directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable (bypassing the router). If you get internet directly on the modem, the router is the problem. If you still have no internet directly on the modem, contact your ISP — the fault is on their side.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my TP-Link router say 'No Internet' but my modem is working?
If your modem has internet (tested by connecting directly) but the TP-Link router shows no internet, check that the Ethernet cable is in the WAN port (not a LAN port), and that the router's WAN connection type matches your ISP settings. For many home connections it should be 'Dynamic IP' — log into the router at 192.168.0.1 to verify and correct the setting.
