Not Heating

Bosch Oven

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A Bosch electric oven that does not heat most often has a failed bake element or heating element. Check for an E0, E1, or E2 error code first — these point to the specific fault.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Electric Oven
  • Bosch Gas Oven
  • Bosch Serie 2 Oven
  • Bosch Serie 4 Oven
  • Bosch Serie 6 Oven
  • Bosch Serie 8 Oven

Common Causes

  • Failed bake or upper heating element
  • Open temperature sensor (E0)
  • Failed gas igniter (gas ovens)
  • Blown oven thermal fuse
  • Faulty control board not activating the heating circuit

How to Fix It

  1. Check for an error code.

Look at the display when the oven tries to heat. E0 indicates an open sensor. E1 indicates overheating. E2 indicates a shorted sensor. Fix the relevant fault before continuing.

  2. Inspect the heating elements.

Look inside the oven for the bake element (bottom) and grill element (top). Visible burn marks, breaks, or blistering indicate failure. Test with a multimeter for continuity.

  3. Test the oven temperature sensor.

Disconnect the sensor connector and test resistance. Replace the sensor if it reads open or near-zero. A working sensor at room temperature reads several hundred to a few thousand ohms.

  4. Test the igniter or gas valve (gas ovens).

If the igniter glows but does not light the gas within 90 seconds, it is weak and must be replaced. A gas valve fault requires a qualified gas technician.

When to Call a Professional

If elements and the sensor test fine but the oven still does not heat, a Bosch technician should test the control board and wiring harness.
