Brush Not Spinning
Dolphin Robotic Pool Cleaner
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A Dolphin robotic cleaner with a brush that is not spinning is almost always caused by hair or string wrapped around the brush shaft and axle, jamming the rotation. Remove the cleaner from the pool, flip it over, and remove all debris from around the brush ends and axle. A worn brush drive belt is the next most likely cause.
Affected Models
- Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus
- Dolphin Active 60i
- Dolphin Quantum
- Dolphin Supreme M600
- Dolphin S300i
Common Causes
- Hair, string, or debris is wrapped around the brush axle and blocking rotation
- Brush drive belt has stretched or snapped
- Brush gear assembly has stripped teeth
- Pool debris is packed so tightly in the filter basket that it is creating back-pressure against the brush
How to Fix It
-
Remove the cleaner from the pool and place it on a clean surface. Flip it over to access the brush. Use scissors or a seam ripper to cut away any hair or string wrapped tightly around each end of the brush shaft.
Hair wraps silently and accumulates over many cleaning cycles. Cutting the wrap rather than pulling it avoids damaging the axle bearings.
-
Try to spin the brush by hand. If it turns freely after clearing debris, debris was the cause. If it still feels stiff or will not turn, the drive belt or gear may be the issue.
-
Check the drive belt if accessible on your model. On many Dolphin models the side panels pop off to reveal the belt. A broken or very slack belt needs replacement.
Drive belts are consumable parts available from Dolphin dealers. They typically last 2–3 seasons depending on use.
-
Empty and clean the filter basket if it is heavily loaded. A completely full basket increases internal resistance and can slow or stop the brush motor.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I clean the brush axle area on my Dolphin cleaner?
Check and clear the brush axle area every 5–10 cleaning cycles if you have a pool with lots of leaf debris or a dog that swims in the pool. For normal residential pools, checking monthly is usually sufficient. Regular clearing prevents motor damage from sustained axle friction.
