Not Climbing Walls

Dolphin (Maytronics) Robotic Pool Cleaner

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

A Dolphin that will not climb walls usually has worn tracks/brushes, a full filter reducing suction, or a tangled cable limiting movement. Clean the filter, check the tracks, and untangle the cable.

Affected Models

  • Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus
  • Dolphin Premier
  • Dolphin Sigma
  • Dolphin M600

Common Causes

  • Filter basket/bag too full — reducing suction
  • Drive tracks worn and slippery
  • Brushes worn — no grip
  • Cable tangled — pulling the robot back
  • Pool surface too smooth (glass tile)
  • Impeller clogged reducing pump suction

How to Fix It

  1. Clean or replace the filter.

A full filter reduces suction power needed for wall climbing. Clean after every use.

  2. Check and replace worn tracks.

Run your finger along the tracks. If they are smooth with no tread, they need replacing ($30-$60 per set).

  3. Replace worn brushes.

Brushes provide traction and scrubbing. Flattened or missing bristles reduce wall-climbing ability.

  4. Untangle and straighten the cable.

Lay the cable in the sun for 30 minutes to remove coil memory. A tangled cable acts as a leash preventing wall reach.

  5. Check the impeller for debris.

Open the pump housing and remove any leaves or debris from the impeller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Dolphins climb walls?

Most mid-range and above models climb walls and the waterline. Entry-level models (Nautilus CC) may only scrub the floor.

Does pool surface affect climbing?

Yes. Plaster and pebble surfaces provide good grip. Smooth glass tile is the hardest surface for robotic cleaners.
