Blue Connect Not Pairing / Won't Connect
Hayward Pool Equipment
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
The Hayward Blue Connect sensor failing to pair usually means the CR2 battery is flat, the phone's Bluetooth is off, or the app needs a fresh install. Confirm the sensor LED blinks blue when you press the top button — this indicates it is in pairing mode. If the LED does not light, replace the CR2 battery first.
Affected Models
- Hayward Blue Connect
- Hayward Blue Connect Plus
- Hayward OmniLogic compatible sensors
Common Causes
- CR2 coin cell battery flat or below minimum pairing voltage
- Phone Bluetooth disabled during the pairing attempt
- Sensor already paired to a different phone (factory reset needed)
- App data corrupted — requires reinstall
- Sensor placed too far from phone during pairing (keep within 3 feet)
How to Fix It
-
Replace the CR2 battery.
The Blue Connect sensor runs on a single CR2 battery. Remove the sensor cap by twisting counterclockwise, replace the CR2 battery, and reattach the cap. A new battery should cause the LED to blink when you press the activation button.
-
Enable Bluetooth and location permissions.
On your phone, ensure Bluetooth is enabled. Also ensure the Blue Connect app has Location permission — on iOS and Android, Bluetooth LE scanning requires location access. Without this permission, the app cannot detect the sensor.
-
Press the pairing button on the sensor.
Hold the Blue Connect sensor near your phone (within 3 feet) and press the button on the top of the sensor. The LED should blink blue to confirm it is advertising for pairing. Open the Blue Connect app and tap Add Sensor — the sensor should appear within 30 seconds.
-
Reinstall the Blue Connect app.
Delete the Blue Connect app from your phone and reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play. Corrupted app data can prevent sensor detection even when the sensor is working. After reinstalling, log back in and retry the pairing process.
-
Factory reset the sensor if paired to another phone.
If the sensor was previously paired to a different phone, it may refuse a new pairing without a factory reset. To reset: remove the battery, press and hold the button while reinserting the battery, and continue holding for 5 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly. The sensor is now cleared and ready for new pairing.
When to Call a Professional
If a fresh battery, Bluetooth is confirmed on, and a reinstalled app still cannot detect the Blue Connect sensor, the Bluetooth module inside the sensor may be defective.
