Clean Mode Not Working

Zodiac Pool System

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Jandy Clean mode not activating is most often caused by a valve actuator that has not completed its position change, a scheduling conflict, or the iAquaLink automation not sending the correct command. Check the valve actuator positions first — the actuators must complete a full rotation before Clean mode activates the heater or other equipment.

Affected Models

  • Jandy AquaLink RS Automation
  • Zodiac iAquaLink System
  • Jandy iAquaLink with Valve Actuators

Common Causes

  • Valve actuator is stuck or has not completed its position change
  • Scheduling conflict — another mode is active at the same time
  • iAquaLink hub has lost connection to the control panel
  • Clean mode timer is set but the current time does not match the schedule

How to Fix It

  1. Go to the AquaLink RS panel or the iAquaLink app and manually trigger Clean mode. Watch the valve actuator — it should rotate to redirect water flow. If it does not move, the actuator is the fault.

Valve actuators have a manual override gear that lets you rotate them by hand. If the actuator is stuck electrically but moves manually, the actuator motor has failed.

  2. Check for scheduling conflicts in the iAquaLink app. If Filter mode and Clean mode overlap, the system may default to one and ignore the other.

  3. Verify the controller clock is set correctly. An incorrect time causes scheduled Clean mode to fire at the wrong time or not at all.

  4. If using iAquaLink, check that the hub shows as Online in the app. A disconnected hub will not relay commands to the AquaLink RS panel.

Restart the iAquaLink hub by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Jandy Clean mode actually do?

Jandy Clean mode temporarily redirects the filtration circuit to run through the pool cleaner line rather than the standard return jets. This increases suction to the pressure-side or booster-pump cleaner. It is scheduled to run for 1–3 hours daily and automatically returns to Filter mode when the timer expires.
