Auto Shuts Off
Anker Power Bank
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Anker power banks have an auto-shutoff feature that turns them off when no significant current draw is detected for 30–60 seconds. This happens when charging a fully topped-up device or a very low-draw device like earbuds. Press the power button to wake the bank back up.
Affected Models
- Anker PowerCore 10000
- Anker PowerCore 20000
- Anker PowerCore III
- Anker 737 (PowerCore 24K)
- Most Anker power banks
Common Causes
- Device battery is already full — current draw dropped to near zero, triggering auto-off
- Charging a very low-draw device (earbuds, smartwatch) that consumes less than the auto-off threshold
- Phone entered a low-power sleep state with screen off
- Cable resistance too high — the bank sees low draw even when the device needs charge
- Auto-off timeout set too short on models with adjustable settings
How to Fix It
-
Press the power button to wake the bank.
When the power bank shuts off, it retains its remaining charge. Press the button once to turn it back on and resume charging. You may need to reconnect the cable.
-
Use the correct mode for low-draw devices.
Anker power banks have a low-current mode for small devices. Press and hold the button for 2 seconds (varies by model) to enable it. In low-current mode, the auto-off threshold is lowered so it stays on for earbuds and smartwatches.
-
Plug in the device before turning on the power bank.
Connect the cable to the device and the power bank before pressing the power button. This gives the bank a load to detect immediately and prevents the auto-off from firing before the device wakes its charging circuit.
-
Try a shorter, thicker cable.
A long or thin cable has high resistance that makes the power bank see a lower current draw than the device actually needs. Use a short, quality cable (0.5–1m) to reduce resistance.
-
Charge the device while it is in use.
A phone with the screen on and running apps draws more current than one asleep. Keeping the screen on or playing music while charging ensures a constant draw that prevents auto-off.
When to Call a Professional
If the power bank shuts off within seconds even when charging a phone with a low battery, the current detection circuit may be faulty. Contact Anker support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Anker power bank keeps shutting off when charging my Apple Watch — how to fix?
Apple Watch draws under 1W, which is below the auto-off threshold on most Anker banks. Enable low-current mode by pressing and holding the button for 2 seconds. The bank will stay on for very low-draw devices.
Can I disable the auto-shutoff on my Anker power bank?
Most Anker power banks do not allow you to fully disable auto-shutoff. Using low-current mode and ensuring there is always a small current draw (leave the screen on) are the best workarounds.
