Overheating

Anker Power Bank

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

Some warmth during charging is normal, but if the power bank is too hot to hold comfortably, stop using it. Overheating can be caused by a short circuit, faulty cable, or internal battery degradation. Disconnect all cables and let it cool in a ventilated area.

Affected Models

  • All Anker power banks

Common Causes

  • Normal heat from fast charging (warm is OK)
  • Direct sunlight heating the power bank
  • Using while charging (pass-through charging generates more heat)
  • Faulty cable causing resistance heating
  • Internal battery cell failure (dangerous)

How to Fix It

  1. Disconnect all cables immediately.

If the power bank is too hot to hold, disconnect everything. Place on a non-flammable surface away from you.

  2. Let it cool in a ventilated area.

Do not put it in a bag or pocket while hot. Let it cool to room temperature before using again.

  3. Check the cable for damage.

A cable with internal damage creates resistance, which generates heat. Replace any cable that feels warm during use.

  4. Do not use in direct sunlight or hot cars.

High ambient temperature plus charging heat can push the power bank past safe limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

How hot is too hot?

Warm to the touch during charging is normal (up to ~45°C/113°F). If it is too hot to hold comfortably, it is too hot. Disconnect immediately.

Can a power bank explode?

It is extremely rare with quality brands like Anker. But any lithium battery can be dangerous if punctured, overheated, or damaged. Never use a swollen or damaged power bank.
