Overload Error / OL

Various Portable Power Station

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Overload means you are trying to draw more power than the station can provide. The connected devices exceed the AC inverter's rated wattage. Disconnect devices until the load is within the rated capacity.

Affected Models

  • Jackery Explorer
  • EcoFlow Delta/River
  • Bluetti
  • Anker Solix
  • Goal Zero Yeti

Common Causes

  • Connected devices exceed the rated AC output wattage
  • Appliance with high startup surge (compressors, motors)
  • Multiple high-power devices running simultaneously
  • Faulty appliance drawing excessive power

How to Fix It

  1. Disconnect devices until the overload clears.

Check the wattage of each device. Total must be under the station's rated output. A 500W station cannot run a 1000W appliance.

  2. Start high-power appliances one at a time.

Appliances with motors (fridges, power tools) draw 2-3x their rated wattage at startup. Start them individually to avoid stacking surges.

  3. Check the station's rated vs surge wattage.

A 1000W station with 2000W surge can handle brief spikes up to 2000W. But sustained load must stay under 1000W.

  4. Use a Kill-A-Watt meter to check actual device consumption.

Some devices draw more than their label states. A meter shows real-time power draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can a 500W power station run?

Laptops, phones, lights, fans, small TVs, CPAP machines. Cannot run: hair dryers, microwaves, space heaters, electric kettles.

What is the difference between rated and surge wattage?

Rated wattage: continuous output the station can sustain. Surge wattage: brief peak for startup surges (usually 2x rated).
