Beeping After Power Restored / Post-Outage Alarm
Advice UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
An Advice UPS beeping after power is restored usually means the battery was deeply discharged during the outage and is now showing a low battery alarm. The alarm will stop once the battery recharges — allow 4–8 hours of mains power for a full recharge.
Affected Models
- Advice UPS Line-Interactive Series
- Advice UPS Online Series
- Advice UPS (all models)
Common Causes
- Battery low alarm active — battery was deeply discharged during the outage and has not yet recovered
- Sustained overload condition still present after power returned
- Battery fault triggered during the outage discharge — battery may need replacement
- Self-test failed alarm triggered automatically when mains was restored
- Mains voltage still slightly outside normal range after recovery
How to Fix It
-
Allow 4–8 hours for the battery to recharge.
After a deep discharge during an outage, the battery needs significant time to recover. Leave the UPS connected to mains power and running normally. The low battery alarm and beeping will stop automatically once the battery returns to a sufficient charge level.
-
Press the alarm silence button.
Most Advice UPS models have an alarm silence or test button on the front panel. Press it once to mute the current alarm while the battery recharges. The alarm may reactivate if the battery level drops again — this is normal during a slow recharge.
-
Reduce connected load after an outage.
After a deep discharge, the battery recharges more quickly with a lighter load. Temporarily unplug high-power devices and leave only essential equipment connected. This gives the charging circuit the best conditions to recover the battery quickly.
-
Check for an overload alarm.
If the beeping pattern matches an overload alarm (rapid repeated beeps), a high-draw device may still be drawing too much power. Unplug high-wattage devices one at a time until the alarm stops. Refer to your Advice UPS manual for the specific overload beep pattern.
-
Run a self-test after 8 hours of recharging.
After allowing the battery to recharge for 8 hours, press the self-test button. A passed self-test confirms the battery recovered correctly. A failed self-test after 8 hours of charging indicates the battery was permanently damaged by the deep discharge and needs replacement.
When to Call a Professional
If the beeping continues for more than 8 hours after power is restored and the battery low indicator is still showing, the battery has been permanently damaged by the deep discharge. Replace the battery.
